Saerom Ahn explores the political processes through which environmental and ecological discourses and practices are constituted, with particular attention to the tensions embedded within them. She received her Ph.D. in Education in 2022 from Seoul National University’s Interdisciplinary Program in Environmental Education, with a dissertation that conceptualizes air and climate conservation practices in South Korea as the “politics of the atmospheric commons.”

She has worked as the PI in developing environmental education materials published by the Ministry of Environment and contributed to the development of environmental textbooks issued by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, thereby bridging academic research with educational practice. As a researcher of the “Forum for Life, Liberty, and Community” organized by the Korea Safety Health Environment Foundation, she continues to explore the intersections of environmental education and environmental sociology.

She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Anthropocene Studies (CAS) at KAIST, where she leads a research project on Anthropocene education. This project investigates “Anthropocene patches”—places where asymmetrical flows of power, capital, and time intersect, and where historical, ecological, and political relations are entangled in layered ways. By engaging with such sites, the project explores how to learn the skills necessary for living in the Anthropocene. It emphasizes the importance of Anthropocene imaginaries, new scientific and artistic practices, and collective and intersectional modes of learning, aiming to reimagine contemporary education.

In addition to this work, she is also conducting research on the disaster of waste infrastructure and on the evolving politics of atmospheric commons amid intensifying climate change, addressing multifaceted issues that call for critical rethinking in the age of the Anthropocene.
