성한아 박사는 간척으로 생겨난 농경지, 저수지, 하굿둑, 방조제, 인공 습지와 같은 간척지와 인공물을 인류세 시대의 신생 자연으로 간주하며, 간척지를 조사하고 정의하는 (생태)과학기술적 실천이 새로운 자연을 규정하고 이에 개입해 온 지식 정치를 탐구하고자 한다. 대규모 간척지가 철새의 보금자리이자, 생물다양성의 보고인 습지라는 사실이 밝혀지면서 나타난 정치적, 사회적, 과학적 변화를 추적함으로써 인류세를 다종 관계에 입각해 탐구할 가능성을 시도한다.

Dr. Sung considers reclaimed lands such as farmlands, reservoirs, estuary banks, seawalls, and artificial wetlands as emergent ecologies in the Anthropocene. She examines how technoscientific monitoring practices of reclaimed land co-produce unexpected ecologies and the relations between human and non-human in South Korea. This research attempts to explore the Anthropocene through a multi-species lense.
